Often you may want to fill in a series with values in Google Sheets. Fortunately this is easy to do using the simple drag and fill feature built into Google Sheets.
This tutorial explains how to fill a series in four different scenarios:
1. Fill a Series of Numbers
2. Fill a Series of Letters
3. Fill a Series of Days
4. Fill a Series of Months
Example 1: Fill a Series of Numbers
To fill a series of numbers in Google Sheets, simply enter the value of the first two numbers:
Then hover over the bottom right-hand corner of the cell until a tiny “+” appears. Then click and drag down to however many cells you’d like in the same column:
Google Sheets will automatically detect the pattern between the first two numbers (e.g. add one value) and simply repeat this pattern for as many values as you’d like.
Example 2: Fill a Series of Letters
To fill a series of letters in Google Sheets, type in the first letter in some cell and then use the following formula to increment the letter by one:
=CHAR(CODE(A2)+1)
Then hover over the bottom right-hand corner of the cell until a tiny “+” appears. Then click and drag down to however many cells you’d like in the same column:
A series of letters will automatically be filled in.
Example 3: Fill a Series of Days
To fill a series of days in Google Sheets, simply enter the date of the first day:
Then hover over the bottom right-hand corner of the cell until a tiny “+” appears. Then click and drag down to however many cells you’d like in the same column:

To fill a series of months in Google Sheets, simply enter the name of the first month:
Then hover over the bottom right-hand corner of the cell until a tiny “+” appears. Then click and drag down to however many cells you’d like in the same column:
